NEW ULM–Delphin “Del” Ulrich, age 92, of New Ulm, died on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Oaklawn Rehab Center in Mankato.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with Pastor Rob Guenther officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will follow in the New Um City Cemetery-Soldier’s Rest Section.Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Del is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Thomas (Stella) and Rikk Ulrich, both of New Ulm; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Kietzer of Menomonie, WI; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laverta (Edgar) Riewe; grandson, Michael Miller; and brother-in-law, John Kietzer.
Delphin Walter Ulrich was born on April 2, 1934 in Madelia, MN to Walter & Alma (Zempel) Ulrich. He was baptized on April 29, 1934 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Vernon Center, and confirmed in his faith on March 21, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Vernon Center. Del graduated from Amboy High School in Amboy, MN. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. Del was united in marriage to Phyllis Mau on February 12, 1956 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Vernon Center. He grew up farming, and continued to do so for his first ten years of marriage. After that he had various occupations and retired after 21 years at Chip Steak & Provision Company in Mankato. Del enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening, and flowers. He belonged to the Disabled American Veterans and was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Memorials are preferred to the MLC Tuition Assistance Fund, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, or the donor’s choice.
