He was preceded in death by his parents, Theophil and Esther Opitz.

Wayne Theophil Opitz was born on July 28, 1940, in Hutchinson, Minnesota, to Theophil and Esther (Wendlant) Opitz. On September 15, 1962, he was united in marriage to Jean Hermann. Together, they shared many years of love, partnership, and devotion to their family.

Wayne spent his working years in the Gibbon area, primarily in the oil business, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dependability. He worked until his retirement in January 2006. Never one to sit still, Wayne continued working as a seasonal driver for the Co-op until 2011, and later for WinField United in Winthrop until 2023.

Wayne enjoyed spending time in his shop woodworking and visiting with friends at coffee with the Moltke Coffee crew. Above all, his greatest joy was time spent with his family, especially his grandsons.

A man of faith, Wayne was a devoted lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon, where he served on the church council, as an elder, and as treasurer. His quiet strength, steady presence, and unwavering commitment to those he loved will be deeply missed.
