Florence Estelle Block was born on October 25, 1921, in Nicollet Township to Frederick and Annie (Drenttel) Block. She grew up in rural Nicollet, where she attended country grade school. Florence experienced the loss of her mother at a very young age and was lovingly raised primarily by her father. On October 10, 1940, Florence was united in marriage to Harold Forbrook. Together, they were blessed with a son and a daughter, whom they raised in rural Courtland. Florence devoted her life to her family as a loving mother and homemaker, while also working for over 20 years at 3M in New Ulm.
Florence was known for her feisty, spirited personality and her sharp sense of humor. She loved to joke and had a way of bringing laughter to those around her. Beneath that playful spirit was a remarkably strong and independent woman whose resilience carried her through life’s challenges. In her retirement, Florence found great joy in traveling the country alongside her daughter, Janet. These adventures created countless cherished memories, from trips across the United States to special experiences in Las Vegas, where she saw Elvis perform, and to the beauty of Hawaii. At home, Florence enjoyed listening to old-time polka music and keeping her hands busy with needlepoint, creating many treasured pieces that her family will hold dear for years to come.
She was a longtime member of the WELS Lutheran church and most recently a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
Above all, Florence found her greatest happiness in her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, taking immense pride in the legacy she helped create. Florence will be remembered for her quiet strength, her lively spirit, and the love and laughter she shared so freely. Her life was one of dedication, resilience, and deep devotion to those she loved, and her memory will live on in the many lives she touched. Blessed be her memory.
