NEW ULM–Ardis “Ardie” Lund, formerly of Lafayette and then New Ulm, passed away at the Benedictine Care Community in Saint Peter, MN on September 15, 2024.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024 at First Lutheran Church in Lafayette. Pastor Leonard Hummel will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024 at First Lutheran Church in Lafayette. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl “Shorty” Lund, and her brother Donley Johnson. Ardis is survived by her children Becky (Steve) Briggs, of Eagan, and Bill (Annie) Lund, of Hutchinson; granddaughters Krista Briggs (Chris Anderson) of Eagan and Kelly (Eric) Kildal of Dayton; her sister, Marge Johnson of Saint Peter; nieces and nephews.

Ardis Lorraine Johnson was born in New Ulm on March 25, 1926 to Henning W. & Alice (Isenberg) Johnson. She grew up in Lafayette and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1944.

That fall, she and a friend attended the Electronic Radio-Television Institute in Minneapolis. She then enrolled at Gustavus Adolphus College and graduated in 1949 with a major in Social Work.

Ardis & Earl were married June 14, 1953 at the First Methodist Church in Lafayette. They lived in Lafayette until 2005 when they moved to New Ulm.

Ardis was employed by Brown County Human Services for two tenures – as a social worker before her children were born, and as a financial case worker when her children were older, retiring in 1991. She was the organist at Lafayette First Methodist and First Lutheran churches for more than 50 years, retiring in 2004. For many years she gave piano lessons in her home.

Ardis was appointed to, and served on, the Nicollet County Welfare Board and the Minnesota Valley Regional Library System Board. She was a long-time member of the Lafayette Study Club and the Lafayette American Legion Auxiliary.

Memorials may be directed to the University of Minnesota Department of Neurology for Age-Related Macular Degeneration research, First Lutheran Church of Lafayette, or donor’s choice.
