Myron Oliver Alfred

April 15, 1948-Aug. 28, 2024

FLORENCE–Myron Oliver Alfred, 76, of Florence, MT passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

Myron was born April 15, 1948, at Union Hospital in New Ulm, MN to Percy and Irene Alfred. Myron was raised on the family farm and attended New Ulm public schools.

He was drafted into the Army in 1968 and after being Honorably discharged, he returned to the farm. Myron than began driving truck for Harold Schugel Trucking. It didn’t take long for him to buy his first of many Peterbilt’s, and the C.B. handle “Woodpecker” was born. In the spring of 1973, he married Judy Penkert at St. George Catholic Church and together they settled in New Ulm where they welcomed their three children, Corey, Jennifer and Kari. Myron’s love for trucking eventually had him working for Sammons Trucking based out of Missoula, MT, that took him from east to west. Myron fell in love with “Big Sky Country” and in 1984 he moved his family to Florence, MT. When the miles finally added up, Myron traded in his Peterbilt for his retirement suspenders and began working on his beloved Oliver tractors. When springtime arrived each year, Myron would line up all of his tractors in the field and admire his collection. Over the many years of being on the road, there weren’t many people Myron didn’t know and if he didn’t know you, you weren’t a stranger for long.

Myron is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy; son Corey (Bridget) Alfred; daughters, Jennifer (Danny) Wandler and Kari (Danny)Tudahl; grandchildren Cody Carmona, Chase, Kylie and Aydan Alfred, Trey and Haley Wandler and Jordyn, Brittyn and Brody Tudahl; brother Melvin Alfred; sisters Lavonne Christensen, Helen Vogel and Joni Ahlness, all of New Ulm. Myron was preceded in death by his parents Percy and Irene Alfred, nephew Robert Christensen and infant grandsons, Adam Wandler and Karsyn Tudahl.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Whitsett Funeral Home in Stevensville, MT with Father David Severson officiating. Interment will take place at St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with a luncheon to follow. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at
