Mary Ellen Hulke was born October 10, 1946, in New Ulm to Ray and Stella (Kohn) Hulke. Growing up in New Ulm, Mary Ellen was a 1964 graduate from New Ulm High School. She was united in marriage to Duane “Max” Fluegge on August 15, 1964, in New Ulm. This union blessed the couple with two daughters, and three sons whom together they raised in rural New Ulm. Besides helping to raise her family, Mary Ellen enjoyed the many years she got to work on the farm with her husband Duane. Besides working on the farm, Mary Ellen also worked at Randall’s Bakery, and at New Ulm Monument Company for many years. As someone who enjoyed to give back, Mary Ellen volunteered in numerous positions at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School. As a dedicated member of her church, she served many years with the Ladies Guild where she always made sure the flowers were kept up, and served countless meals at funeral services. Mary Ellen also assisted in the school library and helped in the office when needed. Besides her time at church, Mary Ellen also volunteered at the Treasure Haus, volunteered for African Dresses, gave blood when she could for the Red Cross, and enjoyed many years quilting with the Quilting Club. Mary Ellen enjoyed working with her hands and especially enjoyed sewing, quilting, cross stitching, gardening, as well as cooking and baking. Mary Ellen was a wonderful supporter of all Minnesota sports teams, but her family always came first. To stay busy, Mary Ellen enjoyed following and cheering for all of her grandchildren’s activities including sporting and dancing events. May these memories and countless others forever stay in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her. Blessed be her memory.
