Wally Meyer

January 4, 1953-June 3, 2024

Wally Meyer was the kind of guy you’d happen to meet one day and end up being friends with for years. He was the sort of person who’d ask you how you were doing and was truly interested in your answer. He’d talk through your bad day with you just as genuinely as your good day. No matter what, you’d end up laughing about something, discovering a thing you had in common, and probably getting a piece of wisdom he’s pass on from his mother, Erna. He was the sort of person you’d buy a beer for because you just wanted the conversation to keep flowing. You’d tell him that he was welcomed to crash at your place if he ever came through town, and when he called one day to take you up on it, you’d pick up a 12 pack and throw something on the grill because Wally’s coming over.

Wally understood that life was meant to be lived and that the best part of any good time was the friends and family you shared it with. He built adventures around pool, travel, music, and food. And although he’d pack up his car alone, his destinations were more about the friends and family he would meet up with along the way than the cities and gatherings he set out for in the first place.

But Wally was a home body too. He loved to garden, can, and cook. He hung out at his place, playing pool and listening to music with friends. He pulled his family together for annual summer parties to make sure too much time and distance didn’t pass between them. He made sure the next generation created memories together. The food, conversation, squirt gun fights, and swimming pool mudslides will not be forgotten. He was deeply loved by those who were lucky enough to know him.

Wallace Fredrick Meyer was born January 4, 1953. He was baptized at St. Peter’s Lutheran church and confirmed in 1967 at Immanuel Lutheran church in Gibbon.
