NEW ULM–Joyce K. Potter, age 94 of New Ulm died peacefully on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at her home at Ridgeway on German in New Ulm.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in New Ulm. Pastor Patrick Thompson will officiate. A memorial service and burial will take place at a later date in the Zion Getchell Cemetery in Valley City, North Dakota-Barnes County. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in New Ulm.The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of New Ulm are assisting the family with arrangements at this time. Joyce is survived by her daughters, Neda (James) Amidon of Fort Collins, Colorado, LeNae (Gary) Schneider of Courtland, DeNel (Ken) Wilson of Henderson, Nola (James) Hrdlicka of Apple Valley; son, Dana (Cathy) Potter of Nicollet; five grandchildren, Denise (Sean) Cheslock, Cara (Ryan) McMann, Forrest (Sarah) Goodman, Nate (Anna) Voges, Mark (Angie) Voges; eleven great grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Severt and Lenora Anderson; her husband, Leonard Potter in 1999; grandchildren, Travis Goodman, Al Voges; son-in-law, Greg Richert; four sisters, Esther (Carl) Olson, Lillian VanDrovec, Delphine (Ray) Noecker, Eleanore Price; brothers, Lloyd (Erna) Anderson, Leonard (Louise) Anderson; brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Doris) Potter, Norman (Avis) Potter, Gordon (Gloria) Potter, and Francis (Bernadine) Potter.
Joyce Karren Anderson was born August 30, 1929, in Valley City, North Dakota to Severt and Lenora (Larson) Anderson. Growing up in Valley City, Joyce was a 1948 graduate from Valley City High School. She was united in marriage to Leonard Potter on July 5, 1950, in Minneapolis. Early in her working career, Joyce farmed in Barnes County, North Dakota and worked at the American Bank in Valley City. The couple later moved their family to Nicollet in 1968. While living in Nicollet, Joyce worked at Brett’s Department Store as well as H&R Block in Mankato. In 1977, Joyce and Leonard moved to Pequot Lakes, Minnesota where they enjoyed the peace and tranquility of northern Minnesota while they owned and operated Tall Timbers Campground and Antiques. The couple eventually moved to New Ulm in 1995. Joyce enjoyed the friendships she made over the years while wintering in Mesa, Arizona from 1978-2003. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in New Ulm, as well as the Red Hat Society of New Ulm. Many fond memories were made going on countless family trips, especially the trips to Norway and Sweden, going out to eat, and anytime she was able to get together with her friends or beloved family.
