Jeremy “Jerry” Alfred Scharlemann

Sept 3, 1946-May 12, 2024

MAPLE GROVE–Jeremy “Jerry” Alfred Scharlemann, age 77 of Maple Grove, MN passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024.

Jerry was a beloved father to Joshua and Alison. A life-partner to Cindy, and a lifelong friend to Sandy and Arlene. He was also a wonderful “stepdad” to Shannon and Michael and “papa” to his step-grandchildren. Jerry will be deeply missed by brother, Jon (Rachel), sisters Jill (Bruce) and Jan (Mike), and his many nieces and nephews.

Jerry grew up in New Ulm, MN. He was a Sargent in the U. S. Army 1967-1969. Jerry took computer programming just after leaving the Army and started his career with Northwestern Bell in Omaha, NE as a programmer. He spent his entire career with the phone company, later serving as an engineer.

Jerry raised Joshua and Alison in Maple Grove, where he coached Joshua in baseball for 10 years. It was indeed one of his favorite sports and he loved to pass his knowledge onto the youth he coached. To this day, many of the young men he coached 30+ years ago still refer to him as “Coach.”

He loved to play “Words with Friends” meeting other players online across the U.S. He also enjoyed playing “Texas Hold Em” bar poker and befriended so many while doing so. Jerry went with Cindy weekly to play “GetAClu” Trivia. Jerry was well-read in all genres and spent much of his life reading about battles from Ancient Rome and Greece, up to current times. He was our “Ace in the Hole” at Trivia whenever a U.S. History or Military question came up.

Above all, Jerry was the kindest, most generous person to all. He was funny and his book knowledge made him so interesting when engaging in conversation.

Jerry will be missed by all, but his warm heart and kind ways will forever live on in all of us.

A Celebration of Life will be held June 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Havenwood of Maple Grove, 18695 73rd Avenue North, Maple Grove, MN 55311 in the Community Room. Memorials/donations preferred to St. John Lutheran School of Redwood Falls, MN would be gratefully appreciated.
