Kent Roger Breu

Kent Roger Breu, age 54, of Wentworth, South Dakota, and formerly of New Ulm, Minnesota, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Rochester, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024 at Prairie Shores Resort in Madison, South Dakota. Celebration of Life will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024 at Schell’s Brewery in New Ulm, Minnesota. Kent is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Julie Breu; parents, Roger and Norma Breu; daughter, Ainsley Breu; son, Mitchell Breu; sisters, Gwen (Jerry) Purdin of Jasper, MN, Michelle (David) Bethke of New Ulm, MN; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Josephine Wellmann, John and Florence Breu.

Kent Roger Breu was born September 29, 1969 to Roger and Norma (Wellmann) Breu in New Ulm. Kent graduated from New Ulm Public High School and furthered his education at Bemidji State University. On September 4, 1993, Kent was united in marriage to Julie Ellis at Nora Unitarian Universalist Church in rural Hanska. Their union was blessed with two children. In addition to being a husband and father, Kent also worked for Daktronics. Kent began his career there in May of 2000. He was part of the start-up team for the Sioux Falls Factory and continued as Plant Manager. Kent also served as the interim Plant Manager of the Live Events factory, before leading Human Resources. Kent returned to operations by accepting an expat experience in Europe as the leaders of the Belgium and Ireland factory. Upon his repatriation to the U.S., Kent lead Demo/Fleet teams and helped develop the Daktronics showing in Brookings. Most recently, Kent was the Plant Manager for the HSPR factory in Brookings. In his free time, Kent enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad and son, tending to his garden, cooking for his family and friends, and watching any kind of sports. He especially enjoyed hosting family holidays or any spontaneous gatherings at his home. Many treasured memories were made going to Lake of the Woods, fishing in a houseboat, and traveling with family in Europe.
