Jon Michael Wieland

Jon Michael Wieland, age 55 of New Ulm died peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at his home in New Ulm surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be 11 am on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Bob Lund will officiate, and burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Monday, April 22, 2024, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – South Chapel in New Ulm. The visitation will continue from 10-11 am on Tuesday at Redeemer church prior to the service.

Jon is survived by his daughter, Mackenzie Larson of New Ulm; his son, Garrett Wieland of New Ulm; his sisters, Cindy (Joseph) Wilhelmi of New Ulm, Nancy (David) Wiese of New Ulm; his brothers, Steven Wieland of New Ulm, Gregg (Marya) Wieland of New Ulm; his nephews, Jesse (Sarah Thisius) Wieland of Mankato, Josh (Lindsey) Wieland of Mankato, Alex Wilhelmi of New Ulm, and Matthew Wilhelmi of New Ulm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Joyce Wieland.

Jon Michael Wieland was born September 3, 1968, in New Ulm to Lowell and Joyce (Meyer) Wieland. Growing up in New Ulm, Jon was a 1987 graduate from New Ulm High School. He furthered his education at Winona Technical College where he attained his FAA Maintenance Certification. Jon utilized this training to work a long and fulfilling career in the aviation field. He started his career at New Ulm Flight Service, and later on at Modern Aero in Eden Prairie. Jon began his career with North Star Aviation in New Ulm in 2011 where he was most recently employed as their Director of Maintenance. To socialize with friends and neighbors, Jon also worked as a bartender at Rodney’s Tavern in New Ulm for many years. Besides his work, there were a variety of hobbies Jon had in life. As an avid sports fan, Jon enjoyed cheering for his favorite Minnesota sports teams, the Vikings and the Wild. His love for hockey came at a young age where he volunteered as the Hockey Manager for the New Ulm Eagles while in high school. As an outdoorsman, Jon enjoyed spending peaceful days fishing on area lakes, and countless memories were made with his kids on camping trips as they grew up. He also enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Charlie and Rosie. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm. What brought Jon the most Joy in life was time spent with his family. He will forever be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing Jon. Blessed be his memory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred to the MSU-Mankato Flight School.
