David Ahlness

David Ahlness, 74, of New Ulm died Monday, March 25, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 3 – 7 PM at the American Legion Club Room in New Ulm.

Military Honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Dave is survived by his wife of 51 plus years, Joni; sons, Jason (Susan) Ahlness, Chad (Carina) Ahlness; grandchildren. Megan Ahlness, Cahnon Ahlness, Carly Johnson and Casey Johnson; sisters, Cindy (Denny) Krautkramer, Leslie Hoffmann, Karen (Jerry) Krebs; brothers, Darwin Ahlness, Bruce (Shelly) Ahlness; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Nachreiner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vickie Nachreiner; sister-in-law, Lisa Ahlness; and a brother-in-law, Robert Hoffmann.

David L. Ahlness was born December 16, 1949 in Madelia to Elton and Nadine (Schweiger) Ahlness. He grew up in Springfield and was a 1967 graduate of Springfield High School. He was employed at a lumber yard in Wisconsin until joining the U.S. Army in 1969. Dave served 23 months in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1972. He was united in marriage to Joni Alfred on September 2, 1972. His employment included New Ulm Quarry, Hoffmann Construction, Cook Sanitation and Joni’s Restaurant since 2001.

Dave enjoyed fall harvest time with his nephew Glen, four wheeling, pontooning with his family and just relaxing with friends and having a cold one.

Dave’s friendly smile and dry sense of humor will be deeply missed by many.
