Gene Joseph Shavlik, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at 80 years young on January 28, 2024, at the Mayo Phoenix Campus Hospital in Arizona, living with Esophageal Cancer for 15 months.

Gene was born June 30, 1943, in Burke, SD raised in New Ulm, MN, and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1961. Post high school, he attended Mankato State University, and proudly served 2 years in the Army. He continued to earn a Master of Accounting from Denver University, and founded Shavlik Financial in Long Lake, MN in 1983, offering financial expertise as a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner. Gene shared an unprecedented devotion and love for his customers and community. Gene is survived by his wife Wendy Shavlik, 3 children-Ross Shavlik, Bobbi Shavlik (Drew LaBeau) and Luke Shavlik; 3 Stepchildren Ryan (Amy) Carruth, Kim (Dan) Buck, and Scott (Kari) Muyres; 6 Grandchildren, Ellie & Gwen Carruth, Peighton & Tucker (TJ) Buck and Dylan & Leah Muyres; brothers Dwight Shavlik, Gary (Cathy) Shavlik, Craig (Leslie) Shavlik; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Penny Shavlik; parents Velma & Archie Shavlik; and brother, Wally Shavlik. A memorial will be held on June 8, 2024, at the Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Blvd E, Wayzata, MN 55391 Visitation from 1:30-2 p.m, Service at 2 p.m. with fellowship & light lunch following the service.
