Robert Victor Lamote was born on October 3, 1951, in Marshall, MN, the son of August and Elizabeth (Kerkaert) Lamote. He was baptized, received his first communion, and was confirmed at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent, MN. He grew up on the family farm in Balaton, MN. Bob graduated from Russell High School in 1969 and from Southwest State University in Marshall in 1973 with a degree in accounting.

On November 20, 1982, he married Helen Hughes in Storm Lake, IA. Bob worked for Hoffman and Brobst in Marshall until 1980 and then moved to Springfield and became a partner at Schroeder and Lamote. In 1997, he joined St. John Lutheran Home as the Chief Financial Officer and retired in June 2018.

In his younger years, he loved to play softball and bowling. He enjoyed golf throughout his life and was even able to savor getting a hole in one. Bob loved history and politics, particularly presidential history, and initially thought he would be a history teacher. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to laugh and tell stories. His parents were both born in Belgium and a good game of rolle bolle was enjoyed at many family gatherings. He was a fan of country and western music with Willie Nelson as a favorite, and watching classic western movies and shows. He enjoyed watching his favorite Minnesota sports teams, including the Twins, Vikings, and Gophers. Family vacations, visiting the extended family, grilling out on a nice day (or even sometimes in the cold of winter), card and dice games, and reading books brought him great joy. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren-Harrison and Juliette.

Bob died on Thursday, March 7, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester surrounded by family following a battle with pancreatic cancer, at the age of 72. Bob and his family greatly appreciate all of the care he received from the medical professionals at Mayo and in Springfield.

Bob is survived by his wife Helen Lamote of Springfield; sons – Jason Lamote of Washington, DC, and Eric (Lennaya) Lamote of Chanhassen; grandchildren – Harrison and Juliette Lamote of Chanhassen; siblings – Margaret St. Aubin of Russell, Marie Vercruysse of Balaton, Hermandina “Dina” (Don) Gruhot of Marshall, Leo “Sonny” (Delorse) Lamote of Balaton, Lillianna St. Aubin of Marshall, Agnes “Aggie” DeJaeghere of Sioux Falls, SD, and Francis “Fran” (Shelly) Lamote of Windom; brother-in-law Lawrence (Judy) St. Aubin of Marshall; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
