Claire Marie Streng Broste

LAKE HANSKA–Clarie Marie Streng Broste, age 90, peacefully passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, in St. James, MN, with her family by her side.

Clarie was born May 6, 1933, in Minden, Nebraska. She grew up in Seguin, TX, attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, and graduated from Luther College in Decorah, IA, in 1955. She received her master’s degree in Garland, TX. Clarie was married to Adolph Streng, Jr., on August 14, 1955, and they were married for 45 years. She met Dennis Broste, and they married on August 3, 2003. They were married for 20 years. Clarie was an elementary school teacher for 40 years, teaching in Chicago, and Garland, TX. Clarie was a world traveler, even living in Germany, and teaching on an Air Force base. She loved taking cruises with family and friends. Clarie was very involved in the ELCA Church, currently at Abiding Love Lutheran, Austin, TX, Living Word Lutheran, Buda, TX, and Lake Hanska Lutheran, Hanska, MN. She enjoyed quilting at various churches. Throughout her life, she was on several church boards, and busy with women’s groups. Clarie was a talented musician, playing the church organ for 30 years, playing the piano, and her flute at church. Clarie always said she was a photo journalist, as she loved posting beautiful pictures and memories to share with her Facebook family. She also enjoyed reading and was part of a book club. Clarie enjoyed life to its fullest, and found beauty in everything. She loved all animals, especially her dogs Harley and Colby, and her cat Lucy. Clarie so enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and never missed her grandsons’ activities.

Clarie was a loving, kind, caring, and giving wife, mom, nana, and friend. She is a beautiful soul, and will forever be an angel to everyone who knew her. She will be so missed by her loved ones.

Clarie is preceded by her father Nicolai Renslo, mother Blanche Wold Renslo, sister Ruthie Renslo Vogel, husband Adolph Streng, Jr., and daughter Susan Streng.

She is survived by her husband Dennis Broste, daughter Savannah Streng Brunnemann, son-in-law Randy Brunnemann, grandson Chase Brunnemann and spouse Jessi, grandson Chance Brunnemann and spouse Ursula, brother-in-law Paul Collinson-Streng and spouse Marsha, and numerous nephews and nieces

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church in rural Hanska. Pastor Kelly Heide will officiate. A celebration of life reception will be held following the service at church.
