John Lehar
John Lehar, life-long farmer and resident of Fairfax, Minn., passed away on Dec. 13, 2023, in Gilbert, Arizona.
John was born to Felicitas (Palmer) and Harry Lehar on August 5, 1934. He graduated from Fairfax High School and served five years in the Army Reserves. In 1964, John married Barbara Nelson, of nearby Franklin and began the next generation of Lehars with their children, Lisa and Thomas. John and Barb were married for over 46 years until spring of 2011 when Barb passed away.
John farmed in Cairo Township with his father until Harry retired and then with his brother, Pat, for the balance of his career. He was active in the community and took a special interest in being involved with several cooperative and financial boards of directors throughout his career. John was a founding board member of Heartland Corn Products in Winthrop, MN and was proud of the positive impact that continues to benefit local farmers. He greatly valued the friendships that were created with his fellow directors.
John enjoyed everything related to the outdoors, including golfing, hunting and fishing. He spent his winters in Mesa, AZ but was always excited to return home each spring to watch the crops grow, always keeping a close eye on the weather. Many hours were spent following the Minnesota Twins and staying closely connected to local news. In recent years he was joined in his travels by his partner, Yvonne Brown.
John is survived by his children, Lisa and Thomas (JoDee); his companion, Yvonne; brothers Charles and Patrick (Peggy); granddaughter, Taylor Ann; his extended family of nieces and nephews, and cousins, as well as friends in Minnesota and Arizona.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Barb; his parents, Harry and Felicitas; his infant sister, Teresa; his sisters Ruth, Helen, and Rosemary and his brother, Leo.
