FAIRFAX–Q.Dan Thompson has lost the love of his life, Carol Jean Thompson on January 3, 2024 with family at her side. Her last words being “I love you all.” They have been together for over 60 years and will leave a huge hole in Dan’s life.

Carol was born on December 25, 1942 to Henry and Marjorie Hermanson. Carol grew up with her sister, Elaine (Lloyd Goetz) and Sharon (Allen Christianson) in Pilot Mound. Carol enjoyed her career for The City of Rochester and later as the Fairfax Public Librarian where she had a passion for helping kids find books, buying books the adults enjoyed reading and assisting with whatever was needed – to some, that meant a breakfast at the library. Carol and Dan had many kids enter their lives in the years they spent in Fairfax. They opened their home to kids had that needed a loving home, may have been for an overnight, a weekend, or through elementary and high school graduation. Her kids Bill Walter, Gary Walter (Amy), Kerri Jo (Jason Blackwell) Danna (Terry Steffen), all had the privilege of camping, water skiing, swimming, fishing, playing cards, and the most important thing, unconditional love. Carol’s passion was to take care of others and put herself last. Always. Carol had a favorite place on earth, Steffen North. Carol enjoyed talking to the hummingbirds, walking with dad, Mikey and Sassy down to the mailbox, sit on the deck and enjoy the lake, collect rocks with her grandkids for the rock garden, toss out wildflower seeds so when she was washing dishes she could see them grow out the kitchen window and she was always on the lookout for bear and deer, or whatever else would stumble by the cabin. She made some wonderful friends at the lake just as she made wonderful friends in Fairfax. Carol was the definition of what’s mine is yours. She will be missed by all of those who were blessed to be part of her life including her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carol’s wishes were to be cremated and to have her ashes scattered at her favorite place on earth. Carol requested in lieu of cards and flowers that you spend time with your loved ones, that is the greatest gift.
