Doug was born on February 28th, 1951 in New Ulm, Minnesota to Willard and Irma (Schmidt) Bode. He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1969 and then went on to earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Mankato State University, graduating in 1971. On March 15th, 1975 he married Diane (Burg) and together they raised their two daughters, Heather and Meghan.

In his young adult life, Doug enjoyed an Illustrious amateur baseball career as a catcher with the VFW league, winning the state championship in 1969. He then went on to play in the Kaiserhoff league and later with the New Ulm Brewers, enjoying many successful seasons. Doug’s passion, dedication, and commitment to New Ulm Baseball culminated with his induction into the New Ulm Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996.

In 1998, Doug opened Preferred Insurance, and through his tireless work ethic, was able to build a successful insurance agency centered on the relentless pursuit of always taking care of his customers. That commitment to his customers, and his enduring professional legacy will continue through his son-in-law Nick Metzker, who he owned the agency with.

Doug looked forward to his summers spent at the lake with Diane, quality time with his kids and family, being a Papa to his two grandsons, Jaxton and Hudson, and his granddaughter Quinn, his “princess”.

His hobbies included his love for the game of baseball and golf, pheasant hunting with the boys, and maintaining his immaculate yard. He also enjoyed a good game of sheepshead or cribbage, laughing with friends, and exchanging stories over a “brown water” at the B&L. He will be remembered for his ability to share a good laugh, his intense work ethic, loyalty to his customers, and an unwavering commitment to his friends and family.

Doug is survived by his wife, Diane; two children, Heather Schneider, and Meghan Metzker (Nick); three grandchildren Jaxton and Quinn Metzker, and Hudson Schneider; Brothers James, Robert (Patti), and Mike (Lois) Bode; and many nieces, nephews, loving relatives and friends.
