Myrna Roiger

Myrna Roiger, 99, of New Ulm passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the Cathedral of the HolyTrinity in New Ulm with Father Jerry Meidl celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 PM Tuesday and 9-10:30 AM Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home -North Chapel in New Ulm.

The Christian Mother’s Society will pray the rosary at 4 PM Tuesday at the Cathedral.

Myrna is survived by Dale (Rosie) Roiger of Fridley, Gary (Candy) Roiger of New Ulm, John Roiger of Dawson, Paul (Debra) Roiger of New Ulm, Mark (Kim) Roiger of New Ulm, Glen (Mary) Roiger of Alexandria, Myrna Mae Roiger of New Ulm, 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren;4 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John on October 26, 1997; daughter, Linda in infancy; son, Jess; sisters, Eunice Bingham, Fernell Newton, Marlene Lidner; brother; Arlen Gehrt.

Myrna Mae Gehrt was born on May 25, 1924 in Renville County, Olivia, to Jesse A. and Emma (Paulsen) Gehrt. As a small child they moved to Morgan where she went through 1st to 8th grades at District 92. She moved to Morgan High School as a freshman then moved back to Olivia where she graduated from Olivia High School in 1942. While in Olivia, Myrna worked at the Yellowstone Café, starting the day of the Armistice Blizzard. She also worked at the seed corn factory and in the office of Pease Plumbing and Heating. The family moved to New Ulm on January 4, 1944. There she worked at the Cudahy Packing Company and the A&P Grocery Store. On August 7, 1947, Myrna was married to John N. Roiger at Holy Trinity Parsonage. To this union was born 7 sons and 2 daughters. After marriage and motherhood, Myrna was a homemaker. She also helped others with cleaning and ironing, worked at the Holy Trinity School lunch program for 3 years and went on to work at 3M for 16 years before retiring in 1987. After retirement, Myrna volunteered with meals on wheels, the blood mobile, the food shelf, funeral lunches, and the telephone committee. She was a longtime member of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, St. Ann’s Court #389, Christian Mother’s Society, St. Agnes study group for over 50 years, and the Oak Hills auxiliary of ministry and praise. Myrna loved her family and many memories were made over her 99 years of life. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Blessed be her memory.
