NEW ULM–In Loving Memory of Valerie Ann Somerson

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Valerie Ann Somerson. Valerie passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, cherished memories and strength and love.

Valerie was born on November 5th, 1953, to George and Marie Brandel. Valerie grew up in St. George and New Ulm Minnesota. Preceded in death by her father George Brandel, Valerie is survived by her only son, Alex Somerson. Valerie is survived by her mother, Marie Brandel, her brother Charles Brandel, and her sisters, Melora Ramos (Pete), Joellen Fischer (Robert), Cyndi Benter, and Helene Decker. Valerie is also survived by her two grandchildren, Tristan and Zander Somerson, for which she spent most of her days enjoying and watching grow.

A celebration of life will be held for Valerie at her family home in Mooresville NC, before being laid to rest in her hometown at the Church of St. George in New Ulm Minnesota.

Valerie was a loving daughter, sister and most importantly an amazing and loving mom to her only son and the best grandmother to her grandchildren. Rest in peace mom (Nina), we will always love you and carry you with us everyday until we meet again.
