Delford (Del) Duenow

Delford (Del) Duenow, age 94 of New Ulm died Saturday, August, 19, 2023 at Woodstone Senior Living in New Ulm.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Nathan Scharf officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 4-7 pm on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH chapel and will continue 10-11 am on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, prior to the service.

Del is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Shari Duenow of New Ulm; daughter, Patti Brueske of New Ulm; grandchildren, Melissa (partner Jordan) Duenow of Mankato, Brian Duenow of Sleepy Eye, Angela Brueske and Nicole Bruske of New Ulm; great-granddaughter, Harlee Duenow; brother, Ralph (Margie) Duenow of Glencoe; sister, LaVern Groupman of Hamburg; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elsie Duenow; wife, Virgene; brother, Earl Duenow; brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Virgina Duenow.

Delford Carl Duenow was born February 6, 1929 in Penn Township, McLeod County to Walter and Elsie (Kuphal) Duenow. Del married Virgene Stresemann on May 6, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop. This union blessed the couple with a son, John and daughter, Patti. Del was drafted into the Army May 21, 1953 and was discharged May 23, 1955. After he returned from the service, Del worked at Valley Grain for a year. Del and Virgene moved to New Ulm, where he started his career with Kraft in 1956. He worked with Kraft for 34 years, until his retirement. Throughout his career, he also worked for a local farmer for over 30 years. Del joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm in 1956, where he was still a devout member. Del loved to have friends and family over to grill out and have happy hour. He also enjoyed going out to dinner with friends as often as he could. He was an avid fisherman and loved fishing with friends and son, John. Over the years, he spent much time going out in the boat or in the fish house. Del’s joy was planning and making big meals for his family during every holiday. Del made many memories with family and friends and will be missed deeply by all who loved him. Blessed be his memory.
