LAFAYETTE–Sandra Donnay, 54, of Lafayette died Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Bernadotte with Pastor Bob Stover Officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the time of service at church on Thursday.The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.To leave an online condolence for her family or to sign the guest book go to www.mvfh.org. Sandra ‘Sandy’ Inge Donnay (Hendrichs) was born April 19, 1969 in Wiesbaden, Germany. Sandy moved with her mother, Erika Hoversten (Ruehl, Hendrichs), from Germany to Goosebay, Labrador, Canada to the United States in the 1970’s. She lived in Tomah, Wisconsin, Kansas City, Missouri, and Biloxi, Mississippi before moving to Buffalo Lake Minnesota. Sandy, her mother Erika, and her brother Tom arrived in Minnesota in 1977. Sandy’s mother married Richard Hoversten in 1980 and they moved to the Hoversten family farm in rural Stewart, MN. Sandy went to, and graduated from, Buffalo Lake High School in 1987. Sandy played volleyball, enjoyed cheerleading for the wrestling and football teams, participated in speech, a student council member, and was a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA).

Sandy was united in marriage to Jeffrey Donnay on September 4, 1993 at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. This marriage was blessed with three children, Kaitlin, Jenna and Addison. Sandy and Jeff resided in rural Lafayette, Minnesota. They shared 29 years of marriage.

After high school, Sandy’s love of animals led her to the University of Waseca where she earned a degree as a Veterinarian Technician. She was employed as a Veterinary Technician at the Animal Medical Center in Hutchinson, MN before making a career change and beginning employment at Plumbing & Heating by Craig in Hutchinson, MN.

Sandy later attended Argosy University in Eagan, MN and became a sonographer. She worked at the Hutchinson Medical Center and at the New Ulm Medical Center as a diagnostic sonographer. Sandy also had her own business with partner and friend, Jolene Field O’Hare, called Complete Relocation out of Lafayette, MN.

Sandy enjoyed animals and during her life, Sandy had many. She had a pet cow named Schatzi, two horses named Misty and Doc, a pet parrot named Spanky, and various chickens, barn cats, or other animals in need. She loved her dog Phantom as well despite his chicken-eating habits. Sandy liked to garden, plant flowers, and be outside. Sandy loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her three girls. Sandy was always present at family gatherings and events. She loved attending her children’s sporting events and activities, and supporting all their interests.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Jeff of Lafayette; her dad, Richard Hoversten of Stewart; daughters, Kaitlin, Jenna and Addison all of Lafayette; grandmother, Leola Hoversten of Hutchinson; a brother, Tom (Sharon) Hendrichs of Hector; nephews, Gabe, Christian and Isaiah Hendrichs; best friend, Jolene Field O’Hare; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Erika Hoversten; grandparents, Johann and Hilde Ruehl and Ardis Hoversten.

Sandy will be missed by many. Blessed be her memory.
