B. Randeen Murphy

SLEEPY EYE–B. Randeen Murphy, age 92, of Sleepy Eye passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye with Pastor Michael Baker officiating. Internment for Randeen and Daniel will follow in the Home Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at church on Monday.

The service will be live-streamed on the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home’s Facebook page starting at 11 a.m. on Monday.

Randeen Meiners was born February 23, 1931, to Martin and Louise (Fruechte) Meiners in Milroy, Redwood County, MN. She graduated from Milroy High School as Valedictorian and attended school in Minneapolis to become a medical lab technician. After school she worked as a lab technician at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center until she was united in marriage to Daniel Murphy on October 3, 1950, in Lamberton, MN. After marriage, the couple raised their family in Sleepy Eye. Randeen worked at the Del Monte Canning Factory, as secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye and as secretary/bookkeeper at Gopher Concrete until her retirement. She will be remembered for the thousands of mock angel food cakes that she made, her caramel rolls and poppyseed cakes. She loved to entertain and was an excellent cook, talents she used to operate the Purple Door Inn Bed & Breakfast in Sleepy Eye. Randeen was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm, and Eastern Star where she was the Worthy Grand Matron 1998-1999. She was active with the local AFS chapter & served as president. Because of the interest in the program the family hosted three AFS students. Randeen was a volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Mobile for many years and donated over 20 gallons of blood during her lifetime. She was an avid scrabble player and spent many late hours playing scrabble with family and staff members at the SE Care Center.

Randeen is survived by her five children: Kevin (Eileen) Murphy, Patrice (Dennis) Peterson, Paula Domena, Kelly (Jolinda) Murphy, Pennie (Tom) Kral; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren with one on the way; sisters, Roxanne Jensen, Verneil Thompson; brothers, David (Becky) Meiners, Dean (Sandra) Meiners; sisters-in-law, Nancy Meiners and Ardis (Clete) Schroepfer, brother-in-law, Clarence Gilb and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel; a brother in infancy; granddaughter, Francesca Yablonski; great-grandson, Hunter Yablonski and son-in-law, Rick Domena; sisters, Shirley Gilb and Audrey Lawrence; brothers, Gorlynn Meiners and Amber Meiners.

Randeen will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Blessed be her memory.
