Josephine Baumann
Josephine “JoJo” (Bezdichek) Baumann of New Ulm, MN, a bright light in the lives of all who had the privilege to know her, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, surrounded by her loving family.
JoJo was born on August 14 in Le Center, MN. She spent her childhood in Le Center and Glencoe, MN, and later moved with her family to New Ulm. After graduating from Cathedral High School, JoJo studied at St. Catherine University and the University of Minnesota. She began her career in Minneapolis before returning to New Ulm to help run the family business, the Ben Franklin store, and later the Eleanor’s store.
JoJo’s talents were many. A skilled artist, JoJo created spectacular paintings and drawings – from lifelike landscapes to dazzling abstracts. She was an exceptionally talented cook and baker, and found great joy in sharing her delicacies with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling in younger years, with some of her fondest memories seeing masterworks of great artists and trying the world’s culinary delights. JoJo loved animals and spent years involved with rescue efforts, and caring for her own dear pets. She had exquisite taste in home decorating, which was showcased in her beautiful and loving home.
JoJo met and married “her rock” Charles (“Charlie”) Baumann and together they welcomed adored daughter Sarah. Family meant everything to JoJo, and she was everything to them. Never could there be a more perfect mother.
JoJo’s vibrant energy and gracious spirit were larger than life. With her buoyant personality, lovely laugh, sparkling brown eyes and wide beaming smile, her presence was a gift. JoJo delighted in being with and talking with people, and was a treasured friend to so many. She will be remembered for her exuberantly positive spirit and eternal optimism. There was no cloud in which she couldn’t find a silver lining. For our beloved JoJo, “life was a parade.” She will be forever missed.
JoJo was a cherished daughter of her late parents Clement Bezdichek and Eleanor (Bicek) Bezdichek, a devoted wife to Charlie, a loving mother to her precious daughter Sarah (Baumann) Rogers of St. Paul, MN, and a loyal and loving sister to Mary Ann Bezdichek of New Ulm, brother John of Red Wing, MN, brother Robert of Hastings, MN, and sister Kathleen of Concord, MA. She also is survived by two beloved grandchildren, Benjamin Rogers and William Rogers, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Thursday, June 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home North in New Ulm, and also on Friday, June 23 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The funeral service will be at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm at 11 a.m. on Friday. Burial services will follow at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
