Lyle Edmond Zupan

Lyle Edmond Zupan age 83 passed away on Sunday May 21, 2023 in his home in Madison, MN. Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2023 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Madison, Minnesota.

Father Brian Oestreich officiated at the service. Special music was provided by Jennifer Wittnebel, organist and Lisa Haas, soloist and St. Michael’s Catholic Choir. Burial was in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.

Lyle was born on January 14, 1940 to parents Raymond and Virginia (Schwagel) Zupan in Belgrade, MN. Then the family moved with parents to Golden Valley, MN where he went to elementary school and was confirmed. The family moved to Courtland, MN. and then he attended New Ulm High School. After high school, he entered the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California.

Lyle met and married his wife Sharon Fiemeyer while in Courtland. They were married in St. Mary’s Catholic Church on April 12, 1961 in New Ulm, MN. To this union 3 children were born.

Lyle went to school at Mankato State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Speech pathology and later got his Master’s Degree at St. Cloud State.

Lyle and Sharon moved to Madison, MN in 1966 where he was employed by Madison schools as an area speech therapist. Working in Madison, Dawson, Boyd, Bellingham and Rosen. He also was coach for 7-8 grade football and girl’s varsity basketball. Lyle served on many boards such as City Council, St. Michael’s Parish Council, Negotiations team for Madison area teachers, Regional Jaycee Chairman and Knights of Columbus.

In life, Lyle enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, bowling, and golfing with his family and friends. Lyle also loved growing flowers and gardening. He took pride in maintaining a flawless yard. Whenever he got chance, he would ride his motorcycle.

He retired from teaching in 1998 from Lac qui Parle Valley School. He and Sharon traveled and eventually ended up in Mesa, AZ for the winter months. While there, he enjoyed knife making, lapidary, stained glass and silver smithing.

Lyle is lovingly remembered by his wife Sharon of 62 years, 3 sons Brian & Sharilyn Zupan of Dallas, Texas, Brent & Sharla Zupan of Madison, Bruce & Kim Zupan of Prior Lake, MN. Grandchildren Timothy & Heather Zupan, Thomas & Hillary Zupan, Tara & Seth Haas, Taylor & Matt Rachey, Jordan Zupan, and Kylie Zupan, great-grandchildren; Brielynn, Rhett and Case Zupan, Zane and Miles Zupan, Everly & Ellie Haas. Sister Karen & Bob Warren of Prescott, AZ.
