Michael “Mike” Stolte
NEW ULM — Michael “Mike” Stolte of New Ulm and recently of Mankato passed away at age 84 on Friday, April 21, 2023 at New Perspective Senior Living in Mankato.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH Chapel with a visitation one hour before the service at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home South Chapel in New Ulm.
Mike was born January 28, 1939, to Everett and Alice (Haase) Stolte in Marietta, Minnesota. When he was 14 his family moved to New Ulm where he graduated from NUHS in 1957. He was married to Gladys Buggert on June 7, 1958, at the UCC church in New Ulm. After graduating he worked for his father at the Klossner/Stolte Grain and Feed elevator. He later managed the elevators in Lafayette, Klossner, and Winthrop. Mike then started working for Harvest States Grain Terminal Association as a line elevator supervisor throughout southern Minnesota for many years. For a few years after that he managed the Butterfield Birdfood plant and in semi-retirement worked at Masterpiece Studios in North Mankato.
Mike enjoyed all sports, especially football and baseball. After retiring he spent many hours volunteering at Johnson Baseball Park in New Ulm. He enjoyed taking his kids, grandkids, nephews and nieces, and many others to Twins, North Star, and Gopher games. He was active in the United Church of Christ and served his church in many ways. He was a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 51 in New Ulm for a number of years and volunteered for Twin Valley Council.
Family camping trips were among the family’s favorite pastimes. After their family was grown, he and Gladys continued to take trips in their camper as long as they were able. Mike also enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren.
Mike is survived by Gladys, his wife of 65 years; children Susan (Mike) Baker of Mankato, Mark (Kari) Stolte of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Mary (Dale) Kassen of Lakeville; and 5 grandchildren – Dan, Nicole, Adam, Alex, and Megan. He is also survived by his brothers, Charlie (Betty) Stolte and Bill (Karen) Stolte; sister-in-law, Janice (Julien) Griebel; brother-in-law, Alton (Mabel) Buggert, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Alice Stolte; infant son, Michael John; brother, Lorin Stolte; his father- and mother-in-law, John and Lena Buggert; brothers-in-law, Leslie (Eunice) Buggert and Fremont (Jan) Buggert; sisters-in law, Leona (Phil) Leonard, Adeline (Lloyd) Berg, Evelyn (Gerald) Riebel, and Arlene (Hilly) Kral.
Mike will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
