Virgil “Dood” Marion Grunst was born on October 27, 1925, in Enterprise Township, Alpha, MN to Edward and Grace (Hite) Grunst. Dood’s younger years were spent on a farm in Alpha, MN. He attended the country school in Enterprise Township. When he was 11, he moved to Nicollet where he would go on to meet his soulmate, Lois Zins. Virgil and Lois were married in 1951. Dood joined the WWII effort from 1944 -1946, dutifully serving his country and achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Dood then worked at the Nicollet Elevator for most of his career and retired from there in 1987. In his free time, Dood spent countless hours on the road with family and friends, especially riding his Harley. The most treasured memories were made on the 4th of July at the Grunst Retreat.

It’s impossible to put 97 years in an obituary or properly send off the most unique and treasured man in our lives. Our hope is that anyone reading this chooses to live a little like Virgil — fearless with a side of humor and a remarkable zest for life. “Other things, may change us, but we start and end with family.”
