Gene L. Olson

1940-2022

Gene “Benny” L. Olson, 82, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away November 22, 2022, at home with his wife at his side.

Gene was born May 25, 1940, in Hanska, Minnesota, the son of Ben and Irene Olson. He was one of four siblings, including Kathy Erickson, Karen Haack and Larry Olson.

He graduated from Hanska High School in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army as a stenographer for a three-star general from 1959-1962.

Gene married Marleta Schulz on February 14, 1965, and resided in Hanska, New Ulm and then in St. James, Minnesota. His first child Laura was born in May of 1968 and his second child Erik was born in August of 1971.

Gene was a police officer in New Ulm and a life insurance agent until he moved his family to Portland, Oregon, in 1977, where he went to work as a Deputy U.S. Marshal for the U.S. Marshal Service until he retired to Tucson, Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, Marleta Olson; daughter and son-in-law, Brent and Laura Gerard of Citrus Heights, California; son and daughter-in-law, Erik and Jeannette Olson of Waconia, Minnesota; grandchildren: Kyle and Ryan Gerard, McKenzie and Trevin Olson and Kristina Braulick; sisters Karen Haack of New Ulm and Kathy (Jerry) Erickson of Hanska and brother Larry Olson of Hanska. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Gordy Haack and nieces, Marie Larson and Tammy Olson.

He will be sadly missed and remembered by his family. Our loving dad, Gene, requested a cremation and a funeral service will not be held.
