William (Bill) Halter, Jr. was born on September 28, 1929 to William and Mina (Erickson) Halter at the family farm in Highwater Township, Cottonwood County. Bill grew up in rural Lamberton and was the youngest of nine children. Bill was baptized and confirmed at the Sharon Lutheran Church in Lamberton and received his education from District #3 and #38 country schools in Highwater Township. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany. Bill was a volunteer firefighter for the Lamberton Fire Department. Bill started driving truck in 1946. On September 1, 1956, Bill was united in marriage to Lillian Lindholm at the Zion Church in Lamberton by Pastor Clarence Muske at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church Parsonage in Lamberton. In 1964, Bill purchased the Trucking & Livestock Buying Station in Springfield from Herb Schultz. In 1966 Bill and Lil moved to Springfield. In 1982, Bill bought the Rock Street Bar and turned it into his truck shop. Bill had his Class A CDL card until he was 89 years old but was never willing to retire as he continued to help each day starting trucks, making part runs, loading brick, pushing the broom, and moving snow. “Let those truckers roll, 10-4.”

Bill enjoyed dancing, spending time at the lake, traveling, taking drives in his red pick up and side-by-side, celebrating his birthday, deer hunting with the boys, visits from family and friends, and being with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
