Tya Schrader
October 11th, 1956-October 5th, 2022
It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Tya (Traurig) Schrader, 65, who passed away on October 5th, 2022, in the comfort of her home. Tya was born October 11th, 1956, and was raised in New Ulm, MN by her parents Dennis and Verna (Janni) Traurig, with her sister Krisstine (Traurig) Durel. After Verna’s early passing, Dennis married Marion Weise, at which time three step-siblings Mark Weise, Pam Rietkerk, and Trish Bjordahl joined Tya and her sister Krisstine. Tya graduated from New Ulm High School in 1975. During her time in high school, she enjoyed participating in the Education Action Committee, Pom-Pom Girls, Student Council, and playing music with the New Ulm Menagerie.
Tya was married to Bill Schrader in 1978, and was blessed with two sons, William and Derrick Schrader. Tya loved being a mother and raising her two sons, attending and supporting many of their sports, dance, and music activities. She continued her love for helping others by starting her own at-home daycare and volunteering her time at community and church functions. Tya loved making new friends wherever she lived.
She returned to her childhood home in New Ulm to help care for her father and step-mother. Following their passing, Tya found her new home in Arizona where her spiritual journey continued out west. Tya loved exploring and hiking many places with her favorite dog Heso, discovering new restaurants and shopping areas, and giving “Tya’s Tours” to the many family members and friends that came to visit. As her circle of friends and new landscapes continued to grow, so did her spirituality and connection with nature.
Upon her cancer diagnosis in 2020, Tya returned to Minnesota with the help and support of her cousin, Barb (Traurig) Anderson’s family. With comfort and love from family, she found joy and laughter watching late night TV shows, sharing the Traurig’s passion for sports, and enjoyed family meals at the Anderson home. While exploring options for her diagnosis, this also gave her time to be with family and friends. She was particularly thankful to be located closer to her aunt and uncle, Patty and Leo Traurig.
Tya later found her home in Hopkins, MN, where she started her treatment process at Methodist Hospital. While spending time with loved ones, she also enjoyed writing cards to friends, visiting Arizona, crocheting hats for cancer patients, and welcomed the many visits from family and friends that loved and supported her. Tya passed away peacefully on October 5th, 2022, surrounded by light and love at her home. Survived by her two sons, a small open house in remembrance of Tya will be held on Oct. 22nd 2022 from 11am-6pm at 949 Woodhill Court, Hopkins.
Hopkins, MN 55343.
