Frank A. Backlund
We are sad to report the passing of our father, Frank A. Backlund, who died Sept. 14, 2022.
Frank was born on April 15, 1926, in Mankato, Minnesota. He joined the Army Air Force but as good fortune would have it, he was called back in mid-flight from Texas to Germany as World War II came to an end.
He married Maureen Schueller of New Ulm, and they were together for 72 years. They lived without assistance to the age of 93 and 94 when our mother, Maureen, passed away in 2020.
Dad was an adventurous man. He had several jobs that he tried and failed at until he met Fred Austin and Chuck Bailey and was hired by Federated Insurance in 1955.
He retired 32 years later, and then the adventure began! He jumped out of a plane in Iowa, bungi-jumped off a bridge in New Zealand and traveled to all seven continents. After his travels he bought a plane and continued his love of flying.
Our dad was a member of the Concord Singers singing group in New Ulm and performed at many venues throughout Minnesota.
Through it all, our dad made plenty of time for family by taking family vacations and building a cabin that we had years of memories to enjoy.
Frank is proceeded in death by his father, Frank Sr., mother, Doris, and his wife, Maureen. He is survived by four children, Lynn (Scott) Wahoski, Steve (Kelly) Backlund, Tim (Kim) Backlund and Lisa (Chris) Miguel. He also had six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Frank has made an impact on this world and he will not be forgotten!
We will plan to do a celebration of life for both Frank and Maureen in the summer of 2023. Stay tuned for more information.
