Janet Benson

Janet Benson died on Sept. 12, 2022, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minnesota.

A celebration of, and a tribute to, Jan’s life will be held on Oct. 15, 2022, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-North Chapel in New Ulm. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., with prayer and reflection immediately following.

Janet Doris Benson, nee Briese, was born Oct. 15, 1952, in New Ulm to Orville and Doris Briese of rural Gibbon. Paternal grandparents were Henry and Louisa (Dickmeyer) Briese, with Solomon Delphin and Johanna Elvira (Anderson) Isenberg her maternal grandparents.

Growing up on the farm, all the dogs and cats had a true friend and a loyal champion in Janet. Their days were filled with great love and attention. That love, attention and caring manifested itself in a lifelong vocation, providing comfort and kindness to countless elderly citizens in their final months and years. Janet worked initially in the geriatric wing of the old Union Hospital and then in what is now Oak Hills. Hers was often the last soft voice and warming smile so willingly given, that many patients were able to embrace on this side of the vale.

Janet was married on Sept. 27, 1975, to Steven Benson. This union was blessed with a son, Scott. The marriage endured for 46-plus years until Steven’s death on Feb. 27, 2022.

Janet is survived by her son, Scott; brother, Kenneth (Cindi) Briese; twin brother, David (Sue) Briese; sister-in-law, Trudy Wenninger; brother-in-law, Douglas (Diane) Benson; and a considerable number of nieces and nephews.

Blessed be her memory.
