Richard is survived by his sister, Kathy Sperl, of New Ulm.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Alfred and Mamie (Kamm) Hamann; aunts and uncles, Donald and Irene Schauman, Clarence and Rosie Hamann, William and Delores Hamann, Sheridan and Rose Young, Oscar and Ann Schaefer, and Joe and Clara Kraus.

Richard John Sperl was born Oct. 10, 1948, to Alfred and Marie (Hamann) Sperl in New Ulm. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1966. After high school Richard enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star and other commendation medals. He was honorably discharged. After his military service, Richard worked at Del Monte for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and The Military Order of the Purple Heart. Richard was a very private but caring person. He is now at peace.
