Carolyn was born on Oct. 31, 1944, at her childhood home in Hanska to Donald and Stella Pizel (Joramo). She was baptized in God at Lake Hanska Parsonage and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska. She graduated from Hanska High School. Carolyn was united in marriage to Thomas Lastine on March 15, 1963, at the Methodist Parsonage in St. James, and together they had two boys. They resided in Hanska most of their lives, where she worked at the Hanska Seed Center as a secretary. She also owned a craft store in Hanska and managed the restaurant in town. Tootie was a spunky and feisty lady with a heart of gold. She would give the shirt off her back to help others. Tootie enjoyed arts and crafts, she was an avid reader and was VERY protective of her sons. She truly enjoyed her time at the casinos, which earned her the title of “Jackpot Granny” from her grandchildren. Tootie had a quick-witted sense of humor and knew how to make light of any situation.
Tootie is survived by her husband, Thomas Lastine, of 59 years; sons and daughter-in-law, Wade, Donald and Kelly Lastine, all of New Ulm. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Wally Larson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Sharon Pizel of New Ulm and Kenneth and Darlene Pizel of Owatonna; brother-in-law, James Lastine of St. James and sisters-in-law, Kay Lastine of Lake City and Deanne Pizel of Hanska. Tootie was blessed with five grandchildren: Jessica Ross of Monticello, Shannon Lastine of Rochester, Josh Lastine and Tyler Lastine, both of New Ulm and Katlyn Lastine of Inver Grove Heights. She also enjoyed the role of being a great-grandmother to a combined five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was proceeded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, Gordan and Adella Lastine; brothers Charles Pizel, Doug Pizel, Warren (Boobie) Pizel and brothers-in-law, Bill Lastine, Daniel Lastine; and sister-in-law Lee Etta Lastine. Tootie also had many nieces and nephews…too many to mention, but she loved them all!
Tootie will be greatly missed, but our memories will live on forever. Blessed be her memory!
