Orin A. Schultz

Orin A. Schultz, age 85, of New Ulm, died Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral Service will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-SOUTH Chapel, with Pastor Grant Bode officiating. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial with full military honors accorded by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021 in the New Ulm City Cemetery - Soldier's Rest Section.

Orin is survived by his children, Michael (Deb) Schultz of Eagan, Sue Ellen Heide of Fairmont, Jane (Steve) Plagge of Apple Valley, and Stephanie (Matt) Bolles of Mound; sisters, Marliss Gieseke of Monticello, Janice Longhenry of Glencoe, and Joanne Frey of Sun City West, AZ; sister-in-law, Rita Schultz; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darleen Schapekahm; brother, Adelbert; and brothers-in-law, Bert Schapekahm, Earl Longhenry, and Ronald Frey.

Orin Albert Schultz was born on August 25, 1936 in Winthrop to Adelbert & Marie (Braun) Schultz. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He graduated from Winthrop Public High School. Orin then served in the U.S Navy for two years. He was united in marriage to Ruth Blackstad on May 19, 1962 at St. John's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. This union gave them four children. They would later divorce. Orin worked his entire career and retired from Kraft Foods in New Ulm. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, gardening, bowling, and just loved the outdoors. Orin was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Farm City Hub Club, and the NRA. A special memory of Orin's was the mission trip he took to Tanzania. He will be missed by those who knew him.
