NEW ULM -- Harvey J. Veit Sr., age 97, of New Ulm died peacefully on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
The New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will provide full military honors at the service.
The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of New Ulm are assisting the family with arrangements at this time.

Harvey is survived by his daughters, Brenda Braun of New Ulm, Barbara (Kendall) Johnson of New Ulm; his sons, Michael (Sheri) Veit of Phoenix, Arizona, Harvey (Tiny) Veit Jr. of New Ulm, Robert Veit of Rosemount; his 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evangeline Veit; and his brother, Leo Veit.
Harvey Jerome Veit was born April 20, 1923, in Sleepy Eye to Ernest and Clara (Schardt) Veit. He attended grade school at St. Mary's in Sleepy Eye, and was a 1942 graduate from Holy Trinity High School in New Ulm. Harvey proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. While in the Army, Harvey was stationed in Italy during the time of WWII. Harvey was united in marriage to Evangeline Teicher on August 28, 1947, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. This union blessed the couple with two daughters and three sons whom together they raised in New Ulm. Early in is working career, Harvey worked at the Gamble's Stores in New Ulm and Gibbon, and the Rye Mill in New Ulm before beginning his career as a plumber. During his time working as a plumber, Harvey worked for W.O. Moll Plumbing and Heating, Scheible Plumbing and Heating, Osborne Plumbing and Heating, as well as J.P.'s Plumbing and Heating before retiring as a Master Plumber in 1988. Besides his work, Harvey also enjoyed spending time outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, tending to his yard, and tinkering on projects around his home. What he loved the most was spending time with his family. He especially loved seeing his grandchildren grow, and attending his great-grandkids activities. Harvey was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, the New Ulm American Legion, as well as the New Ulm VFW. Blessed be his memory.
