Elsert Merlin Buerkle

GIBBON — Elsert Merlin Buerkle, age 91, passed away peacefully at the Buffalo Lake Health Care Center in Buffalo Lake.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. Pastor Robert Hellmann will officiate. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Gibbon.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon.

Elsert is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Lilla; daughter, Connie Buerkle of Apple Valley; son, Arvid Buerkle of Gibbon; 3 grandchildren, Amanda (Mike) Vegoe of Apple Valley, Samantha (Jerome) Thomas of Burnsville, and Radena Baker of Burnsville; 5 great-grandchildren, Audrey, Mason, Tazanna, Violet, and Carter; and his brother, Vernus Buerkle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Veldon (Bonnie, Ruth Ann) Buerkle.

Elsert Merlin Buerkle was born August 10, 1927 to Arthur and Gertrude (Berger) Buerkle in Gibbon. He attended grade school and began working as a sweet corn picker for Del Monte. After 8 years, he began working on the family farm in Gibbon until he retired. On June 3, 1952, Elsert married the love of his life, Lilla Schauer, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. The couple was blessed with two children, who they raised on the family farm. Elsert had an easygoing and pleasant personality. He was always open to conversation and was never shy to talk to anyone. Elsert faithfully attended church, enjoyed spending time with his friends and neighbors, and bowling in his earlier years. What he loved most in life was getting to be with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, blessed be his memory.
