New Ulm Police Department
• Tuesday at 5:53 p.m. police noticed a man known to have a warrant for his arrest on the block of 1600 North Street. During the arrest, the 33-year-old New Ulm man claimed that he was lawfully carrying a handgun. Following a serial number run, the gun was found to have been entered as stolen in 2023. The man was transported to jail and the gun was seized.
• Police received a report from the 2200 block of North Broadway Tuesday at 8:59 p.m. from a 33-year-old New Ulm man who said that a 27-year-old New Ulm woman violated a harassment restraining order by calling the man multiple times. This marked the fourth time where the woman violated the restraining order in the past year. Report sent to City Attorney.
• A vehicle driven by a 41-year-old New Ulm man known to not be in possession of a valid driver's license was stopped by police at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday near 5th North Street and Garden Street. This is the 19th driving after revocation citation issued since May of 2024. He was arrested and the report was sent to City Attorney.
• Police spoke with a 55-year-old New Ulm woman after finding a vehicle parked near Minnesota and 11th South Street. 12:45 a.m. Wednesday. The woman showed signs of being under the influence and admitted to being under the influence of marijuana. She was transported to NUMC for a test.
• At 7:58 a.m. Wednesday a school bus operated by a 77-year-old Arlington man backed up and struck a parked vehicle on the 1200 block of South Broadway following a drop off. The parked vehicle sustained moderate damages and the school bus received minor damages. There were no injuries.
Sibley County Sheriff’s Office
• Police responded to a one vehicle accident Tuesday at 10:47 p.m near the intersection of State Highway 19 and 595th Avenue. A 2017 Chevrolet impala entered a ditch and rolled over, sustaining damage that resulted in towing. The vehicle was operated by a 14-year-old from rural Winthrop, who was evaluated at the scene and did not need further medical care. Gibbon Fire and Rescue, Winthrop Ambulance, and Five-Star Towing responded to the scene.
