New Ulm Police
• Responded to an assault report on the 1300 block of Payne Street North at 6:58 p.m. Friday. A 43-year-old New Ulm woman told police she and her 48-year-old New Ulm boyfriend got into a fight, she was slapped in the face with an open hand and he put his hands around her neck, went outside and slashed all four of her tires. Police found the male suspect in the backyard before he ran back into the residence and was arrested by police and transported to detox.
A report went to the Brown County Attorney's Office for consideration of felony domestic assault by strangulation, gross misdemeanor domestic assault-subsequent violation and criminal damage to property and misdemeanor obstructing the legal process. Reports went to Brown and Nicollet County Probation. A driver evaluation request went to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for violating conditions to legally possess a valid driver's license.
• A 46-year-old New Ulm man told police at 1:44 p.m. Saturday that he heard one of his friends, a 32-year-old homeless man was arrested for theft. The man said he believed many of the items his friend is storing at his apartment were likely stolen. At the suspect's residence, police noticed many items noted on a July 10 report and took possession of the items. The July 10 report complainant identified most of the suspect items as his. The report is under investigation.
• Took a Walmart theft report at 3:38 p.m. Saturday regarding a 54-year-old New Ulm woman who did not scan a $34.97 dog food bag at the self checkout. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney's Office for consideration of misdemeanor theft charges.
• Stopped a vehicle at 1:39 a.m Sunday on the 1200 block of Front Street South for suspicious activity around a closed business. Impairment signs were detected from the driver, a 38-year-old New Ulm man who was arrested, transported to the Brown County Jail and cited for misdemeanor fourth-degree DWI and misdemeanor driving after revocation. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney's Office.
• Police responded to Payne Street North and 5th Street North at 3:06 p.m. Sunday for a 35-year-old New Ulm woman who left the New Ulm Medical Center in a wheelchair that was medical center property. Police located the woman who said she can't walk so she had the wheelchair. The woman had a Brown County sign and release warrant for missing a DWI court date. She completed the necessary paperwork requested by the Court and given a ride home. The wheelchair was returned to the medical center. A report was done for documentation.
• Stopped a vehicle for illegal window tint at 7:51 p.m. Sunday at Garden Street North and 15th Street North. A driver, a 43-year-old St. Paul man, did not possess an ignition interlock system in his vehicle which was required for previous alcohol violations. The man was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney's Office for consideration of driving in violation of a gross misdemeanor restricted license ignition interlock violation.
• Took a report at 2:57 a.m. Monday of the theft of two bicycles on the 1500 block of Payne Street North. A 41-year-old New Ulm man told police he saw two juvenile females steal the bikes from a bike race. Police found the two suspect females, 14 and 12-years old, from Gibbon. The girls' parents were contacted. Juvenile diversion forms were went to the Brown County Attorney's Office. Reports went to the Minnesota Department of Corrections and human services.
• Stopped two all-terrain vehicles at 12:40 p.m. Monday on the 2200 block of North Broadway for improper registration display. A driver of one of the ATV's, a 31-year-old New Ulm man, was cited for misdemeanor failure to renew registration and misdemeanor improper training required to operate an ATV. The other driver, a 54-year-old New Ulm man, was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney's Office for consideration of gross misdemeanor license cancelled Inimical to Public Safety.
• Police were leaving Kwik Trip on South Broadway Tuesday when a vehicle on Broadway appeared to intentionally swerve at the squad vehicle. Police tried to stop the vehicle but it jumped over a berm on Valley Street South and traveled along the Minnesota Riverbank. Police found the unoccupied vehicle parked behind a pump house. Police located the suspect about eight blocks from the scene and arrested him.
• Responded to a two-vehicle crash with possible injuries at Broadway and 1st Street North at 11:59 a.m. Aug. 6. A 2014 Chrysler Town & Country driven southbound on Broadway by Darryl David Garman, 62, Hanska, collided with a westbound 2003 Dodge Durango driven by Kurt Eugene Krebs, 69, Springfield. Krebs had minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. Garman had a possible head injury and was transported to New Ulm Medical Center. Both vehicles had major damage and were towed. Both drivers wore seat belts.
• Responded to a two-vehicle crash without injuries at 6:55 a.m. Aug. 13 at Broadway and 12th Street North. A 2013 Ford Escape was driven north on Broadway by Maia Fernanda Mendoza Alarcon, 53, New Ulm when a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Theresia Ann Kretsch, 90, New Ulm, made a left turn onto Broadway and collided with the Ford. The Ford had front end damage and a flat tire and was towed. The Chevrolet had rear driver's side damage.
