New Ulm Police
• Conducted alcohol compliance checks at area businesses with a license to sell alcohol April 17 and 18. Twenty businesses successfully passed the check and refused service to underage buyers. Thirteen businesses will be checked later for various reasons. Two businesses failed and sold alcohol to an underage buyer. Reports went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office and New Ulm City Hall.
• A 64-year-old New Ulm woman told police at 11:41 p.m. Friday that a 53-year-old New Ulm man called her a derogatory name and shoved her in the chest in a Emerson Union Apartments elevator. The woman was advised to apply for an Harassment Restraining Order. The report is under investigation for assault charges.
• Stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation and poor driving conduct at 1:05 a.m. Saturday on the 1600 block of North Broadway. Impairment signs were detected on the driver, a 35-year-old Sleepy Eye man. He was arrested, transported to the Brown County Jail and cited for fourth-degree DWI. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.
• Responded to a dog bite report at 4:46 p.m. Saturday on the 500 block of State St. North. A 53-year-old New Ulm man was bitten while riding a bicycle. It is unknown if the man sought medical attention. The dog owner, a 51-year-old New Ulm woman provided current vaccination documentation. A report went to the animal control officer.
• A 28-year-old New Ulm man reported the theft of $1,900 from his garage at 5:11 p.m. Saturday that was reviewed on video surveillance. The suspect is a 32-year-old Springfield man. A report is under investigation.
• The Domino’s manager said at 12:01 a.m. Sunday that three vehicle topper signs were recently stolen. Two of the signs were returned with a note of apology. Signs were valued at $450 each.
• Stopped a vehicle for speeding at 2:13 a.m. Sunday at Center and Broadway. Police detected alcohol consumption and talked with vehicle occupants, all underage. A 17-year-old New Ulm boy was cited for underage consumption. A 16-year-old Redwood Falls boy was cited for underage drinking, driving and speeding. Notification letters were sent to the school of each juvenile. A report was done for documentation.
• A 22-year-old Juneau, Wi. Man said he was scammed out of $4,368.70 via Bitcoin. The man said he received an email from Robinhood, a stock and crypto investment site that read that his cryto (digital currency) was attacked and they would help him with the matter. Police said the man was scammed and he lost the money. A report went to investigations.
• A 25-year-old New Ulm man said at 5:35 p.m. Sunday that he sent explicit nude photos of himself to someone he thought was a female who demanded iTunes and Razor Gold gift cards or the photos would be made public. The man sent $500 worth of gift cards to the scammer. A report went to investigations.
• Received a report at 9:45 p.m. Sunday that an individuals with a Cottonwood County warrant was walking along North Broadway. Police found a 33-year-old Vernon Center man near Artstone who fled on foot before he was apprehended, transported to the Brown County Jail and cited for fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle.
