New Ulm Police

• Stopped a vehicle for traveling on the wrong side of the road at 1st St. S. and Broadway at 2:21 p.m. Saturday. Officers noticed impairment signs from the driver, a 59-year-old Buffalo Lake man. He was arrested for DWI and transported to the Brown County Jail, then detox. A report went to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.

• Took a dog bite report at 8:44 a.m. Sunday from a 33-year-old New Ulm woman who said she was walking her dog on the 1100 block, Washington St. S. when a black lab with a puncture wound near its face, bit her dog. Police talked with the other dog owner, a 43-year-old New Ulm woman, and told her a report would go to the animal control office.

• Took a call from Best Western Plus, 2101 S. Broadway at 10:31 a.m. Sunday. Police learned a hotel guest was arrested for DWI by the Minnesota State Patrol and was unable to return to the room. The arrestee was given permission to have someone take possession of his items in the room. Hotel staff were gathering belongings when they noticed a loaded handgun in the room. Police put a gun safe lock on the gun and delivered the keys to the arrestee at detox.

• Took a report of a pit bull attacking another dog on the 200 block of Garden St. N. at 11:48 a.m. Sunday. A 38-year-old New Ulm woman was walking her dog when a pit bull ran out to the sidewalk and attacked her dog. The woman did not notice any dog injuries. Police talked to the pit bull owner, a 33-year-old New Ulm man about a report to be sent to the animal control officer.

• Talked to a 22-year-old New Ulm woman on the 1100 block, 1st St. N. at 2:36 p.m. Sunday who said her dog, a husky, was attacked by a pit bull. The woman noticed four puncture wounds to the dog’s right leg. The pit bull owner, a 42-year-old New Ulm man said the dog was leashed but his collar was broken. The man agreed to pay any vet bills. A report went to the animal control office.

• Police noticed three men, a 31-year-old from New Ulm, 33-year-old from Minneapolis and 25-year-old from Winnebago, with flashlights near storage units on 16th St. S. at 9:21 p.m. Sunday. The Winnebago and Minneapolis men had arrest warrants. Both fled on foot. With help from K-9 Dino, police found and arrested the Winnebago man and transported him to the Brown County Jail. He was cited for fleeing police on foot. The Minneapolis man was not found but an attempt to locate was issued. Reports went to the city attorney, Blue Earth and Mower County Probation and the Minnesota Department of Corrections.

• Stopped a vehicle Monday for an equipment violation at 12:15 a.m. Monday at 16th St. N. and Broadway. A passenger, a 36-year-old New Ulm man, was cited for open cannabis package in a motor vehicle. A report was done for documentation.

• Stopped a vehicle for speeding at 2:24 p.m. Monday at CR 29 and 180th Ave., Milford Township . The driver, a 66-year-old New Ulm man, did not possess a valid driver’s license. A report for consideration of driving after cancellation-inimical to public safety, no insurance, fail to transfer title and speeding was sent to the Brown County Attorney’s Office. The man was transported to the Brown County Jail.

• Responded to a two-vehicle crash without injuries at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday at 8th North and German Street. Brandy Sue Jones, 25, New Ulm, was driving a 2015 Hyundai Genesis eastbound on 8th St. N., approaching German St. when she collided with a 2022 Ford Maverick driven by Ronald Joseph Schwab, 73, New Ulm, who was southbound on German St. Damage was moderate to both vehicles.

• Learned at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday that an Ilpea employee found a needle in the parking lot that was turned over to police. The needle tested positive for methamphetamine and was entered into evidence. A report was done for documentation.

• Arrested a 47-year-old New Ulm man at 1:46 p.m. Wednesday on a Brown County warrant. The man was transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to Brown County Probation.

Brown County Sheriff’s Office

• Responded to a personal injury motorcycle crash at 1:03 a.m. Wednesday on Brown County Road 6, west of CR 11, east of Godahl. Michael Paul Wooten, 43, St. James, was driving a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on CR 6 when he hit a deer on the road. Wooten was flown from the scene to Rochester St. Mary’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Hanska Fire, Madelia Ambulance and Mayo 1 Air Ambulance assisted.
