New Ulm Police

• Reported a two-vehicle crash without injuries at 20th North Street and Broadway at 7:49 p.m. Jan. 6. A 2018 Dodge Ram driven by Thomas Simonson, 53, New Ulm, was northbound and collided with the trailer of a 2022 Kenworth semi driven by Jerome Bisset, 61, St. Cloud, that turned left to go southbound. There was driver’s side and front damage to the Dodge.

• Arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail a 49-year-old New Ulm man at his residence on a Brown County warrant. A report was sent to Brown County Probation.

• Responded to a report of an intoxicated female causing a disturbance at 10:44 a.m. Jan. 7 at 2526 S. Bridge St. Due to medical conditions, a 63-year-old New Ulm woman was transported to New Ulm Medical Center and placed on a hold. A report was sent to Brown County Human Services.

• Stopped a 38-year-old New Ulm man for driving conduct at 1:30 a.m. Jan. 6 at Broadway and 8th Street South. Impairment signs were detected and the man was arrested for third-degree DWI and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report was sent to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.

• Took a report of a 2019 GMC U-Haul truck not being returned to the New Ulm rental location at 2 p.m. Jan. 5. The renter, a 46-year-old Sleepy Eye man said he was going to return the truck to a Detroit Lakes U-Haul rental location but failed to do so. The man’s girlfriend, a 39-year-old Pelican Rapids woman, said she would make sure the truck was taken to the Detroit Lakes Police Dept. A report was sent to the city attorney’s office for theft charges.

• Took a report at 11:29 a.m. Jan. 7 of a 17-year-old New Ulm girl that had not been seen for several days. She was located at a New Ulm residence Jan. 8 and returned to her residence. A report was sent to Brown County Probation.

• Arrested a 31-year-old homeless man at the Microtel for an Order for Protection violation Jan. 4. The man was transported to the Brown County Jail. Reports were sent to the city attorney’s office, Brown County Probation and the Committee Against Domestic Abuse (CADA).

Minnesota State Patrol

• Reported a one-vehicle crash on TH 15, Fieldon Township, Watonwan County at 8:56 p.m. Jan. 6. Keith Douglas Romsdahl, 63, St. James, was driving a 2009 Ford Ranger northbound on TH 15 on snow and ice, left the road, rolled multiple times and came to a rest in the eastbound ditch. Romsdahl was transported to Madelia Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He wore a seat belt. An airbag deployed. Alcohol was not involved. The Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office and Madelia Fire/Ambulance assisted.

• Reported a one-vehicle crash at 6:33 p.m. Jan. 6 on U.S. Highway 14, Milford Township, Brown County. A 2009 Chevy Cobalt driven eastbound on Highway 14 by Tatiana Marie Parker, 22, St. James, left the road due to icy conditions and slid into the southbound ditch. She was transported to New Ulm Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Sleepy Eye Ambulance/Fire and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office assisted. She wore a seat belt. Alcohol was not involved.

• Reported a two-vehicle, head-on crash at State Highway 19 and Renville County Road 16, Camp Township, Renville County at 10:34 a.m. Jan. 8. David Duane Schwantz, 63, New Market, was driving a 2018 Peterbilt tractor truck westbound on Highway 19 when he collided with a 2020 Kenworth truck driven by Day Day Poe, 26, Naperville, Il, who was eastbound on Highway 19. Schwantz was transported to CentraCare Hospital, Redwood Falls with non-life threatening injuries. Both drivers wore seat belts. Alcohol was not involved.

Assisting agencies included the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfax Fire/Ambulance, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and Ed’s Towing.

Sibley County Sheriff’s Office

• Responded to a one-vehicle crash at 8:38 a.m. Jan. 9 near 441st Avenue, (CSAH 13) and 176th Street, New Auburn Township. Deputies later found a 2000 Toyota Corolla driven by Joseph Garcia, 18, Arlington who had been northbound on 441st Ave. The vehicle crossed the center line, entered the west road ditch and hit a utility pole. The driver drove away but the car later became disabled due to crash damage. The driver was not injured in the crash. Assisting were Glencoe Police and the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office.
