WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court has rejected Alaska's bid to revive a proposed copper and gold mine that was blocked by the Environmental Protection Agency. The justices did not comment Monday in turning away Alaska's attempt to sue the Biden administration directly in the high court over its desire to revive the proposed Pebble Mine in the state's Bristol Bay region. A year ago, the EPA stopped the mine proposal, citing concerns with potential impacts on a rich aquatic ecosystem that supports the world's largest sockeye salmon fishery. .
Man caught on camera accosting a Las Vegas judge in court is sentenced
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A man caught on camera attacking a county judge in Las Vegas is being sentenced to 19 to 48 months in an unrelated case. Deobra Delone Redden was sentenced Monday for accosting someone with a baseball bat. In court last week, he leapt over the bench and attacked Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus. Redden stood in shackles Monday flanked by a group of jail officers. His lawyer declined to comment outside the courtroom. In the attack last week, Redden had to be wrestled off the judge by several court and jail officers and courtroom staff members -- including some who were seen throwing punches.
Officers investigating an apparent altercation between Boebert and ex
SILT, Colorado (AP) -- Law enforcement officers in Colorado say an investigation is being conducted into an apparent altercation between U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert and ex-husband Jayson Boebert at a restaurant in Silt, Colorado. It's unclear what happened on Saturday, but Boebert's campaign released a statement on Sunday in which she said she "didn't punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested." The statement said she planned to talk with her attorney about false claims she says he made against her. Silt Police Chief Mike Kit confirmed the investigation but declined to release further details.

The 911 transcripts released Monday showed that people began identifying the shooter soon after the photo was released to the public. The transcripts captured tense moments including dispatchers staying on the phone to provide encouragement, telling callers to stay quiet, and to wait for police to announce their arrival. All told, 18 people were killed and 13 wounded when an Army reservist opened fire on Oct. 25.
Police arrest suspect in a killing that sent holiday shoppers scrambling
OCALA, Fla. (AP) -- Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for murder after a shooting inside a Florida mall that killed a man and wounded a woman. Acting on tips, they surrounded a home in north Florida early Monday and negotiated for two hours with Albert Shell Jr. Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken said Shell surrendered without incident and was taken to the Marion County Jail on charges of premeditated first-degree murder and attempted premeditated first-degree murder. Court records did not list an attorney for Shell.
