County Board to consider Springfield home building abatement

NEW ULM — Brown County commissioners will consider an application to abate taxes for new home construction for up to five years on Tuesday, May 17. The city of Springfield recently had a three-year window of 50% (tax) abatement with no applications. They are interested in increasing the incentive to build new homes. Mississippi revises eviction law that judge called ‘absurd’

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi has revised its landlord-tenant law to give renters time to gather their belongings from a home before being forced to leave, after a federal judge ruled that the previous law was unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills wrote in his Nov. 30 order that the old Mississippi law was "unpredictable and absurd," saying it went farther than eviction laws in any other state.
