NEW ULM — A new scholarship opportunity for graphic designers is available from Horejsi Graphics.

A $1,000 scholarship is available for the top vinyl wrap design for a South Central College Ag Center simulation trailer.

Horejsi Graphics owner Randy Horejsi said the contest is open to anyone not currently enrolled in the Graphics Communication program at South Central College in North Mankato, but plans to attend in fall 2020.

The participants should visit teamhg.com and download the design template from the scholarship contest page. A copy of the design template and other rules are available on the site.

Participants will need to create a design for a trailer that is used by the South Central College Ag Center. The winning design will be printed and applied as a vinyl wrap on the trailer.

“Anyone can just make a digital design,” Horejsi said, “In this contest you see your design come in real life.”

The winner will also receive a $1,000 scholarship going towards the Graphics Communication program.

Horejsi said he wanted a way to give back and give somebody a chance to do this work and keep it local. The contest does benefit South Central as the design wrap is for the college’s ag program. It is a hands-on approach to a scholarship that is reflective of the type of word done by graphic designers. It is also a great way for a student to see their work in the real world.

“I hope to continue this for multiple years,” he said. “I might be different objects we design for and wrap. We want to keep it to real-life situations.”

Horejsi Graphics has been in business for seven years. They are primarily known for creating vehicle vinyl wraps and tinting, but Horejsi said they can do anything graphically including business cards.

Horejsi Graphics worked with several partners on this scholarship, including South Central College, Minnesota State Southern Agricultural Center of Excellence, Avery Dennison, B. Stark & Co. and Big Ideas.

The deadline for completion design submissions is Tuesday, March 31. Submissions should be emailed to sccscholarship@teamhg.com. The winning design will be announced on April 15.
