NEW ULM – Dr. Abrea Roark, an OB/GYN, started seeing patients at the New Ulm Medical Center in early August. She joins OB/GYN Drs. Victor Khayat and Marc Burkhart.
Roark was born in Parkston, S.D. She earned a Bachelor of Science in biology, with a chemistry minor, from the University of South Dakota. She completed her medical degree from Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota and her residency at the University of Missouri – Kansas City.
Roark and her husband Adam, a structural engineer, have two children, Eisley and Eagan. Their third child is due in November 2015.
Roark says she never considered any career other than becoming a physician and she especially enjoys the wide variety that the OB/GYN specialty affords her.
“I can care for women throughout their lifetime: from their first annual exam, through their childbearing years, into menopause and beyond,” she said. “The thing I like best about OB/GYN is that you get to do both outpatient and inpatient medicine. It’s half a surgical subspecialty, which I enjoy. We really get to do a little bit of everything!”
