Willkommeen Committee tours Chamber apartments

The Willkommen Committee of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce recently toured the Chamber's newly completed downtown apartments.
Located above the Chamber office at 1 N Minnesota Street, the three apartments were created as part of the Chamber's strategic plan to generate non-dues revenue while making use of underutilized space in the Chamber building. The project strengthens the Chamber's long-term financial sustainability, helping keep membership dues affordable while allowing the organization to continue investing in programs, advocacy, and services for its nearly 400 members. At the same time, it represents an investment in the Chamber's historic downtown building and provides three additional housing opportunities that support New Ulm's workforce and continued economic growth.
Committee members learned about the years of planning behind the project and the challenges of renovating a historic building, which the Chamber purchased in 1993. The renovation transformed the second floor into three modern apartments, featuring all-new electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling systems, updated finishes, and thoughtful design elements while retaining original architectural features where possible. The completed project adds three quality housing options to downtown New Ulm while giving new life to an underutilized space in the Chamber building.
The Chamber also recognized the many Chamber member businesses, volunteers, and community partners who helped bring the project to life.
Special appreciation was shared for volunteer general contractor Andy Lilleodden, whose leadership and countless volunteer hours were instrumental throughout the renovation, and Business Services Manager Mae Geidel, who helped coordinate the project and will serve as property manager for the apartments.
