Brown County 4-H students participated in the Minnesota 4-H State Horse show on Sept. 5-9 in Cannon Falls and Sept. 13-14 in Sauk Centre.
Brown County's 4-H delegation included Leah Kucera, Mia Walter, Sydney Zarn, Kenedi Wersal, D'Lyla Todd, and Millie Lax.
This year, over 645 youth from across the state participated in the annual event. Members of 4-H demonstrated their skills and knowledge in hippology (knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry), horse judging, horse training and achievement, speech and demonstrations about horses or the horse industry, miniature horse and drill team skills, along with all of the competitive horse riding events.
Youth participating in the Minnesota 4-H Horse Project learn about show and trail, test their horse knowledge at quiz bowls, judging teams and study horse science.
"Through the Minnesota 4-H State Horse Show, youth build communications skills, gain deeper learning and interest in horses, and build relationships with caring adults," said Renee Kostick, Extension Educator who manages the 4-H horse project in Minnesota. "These experiences contribute to their success in school, community, and futures."
The Brown County 4-H delegation participated in multiple competitive riding events. Leah Kucera took second place in the Key Race with Sydney Zarn taking fourth.
D'Lyla Todd finished ninth in both the Hunt Seat Pleasure and Western Horsemanship.
Mia Walter took ninth place in Barrel races.
