This year, the Mankato Symphony will take its holiday concert on the road, performing Handel's Messiah in Fairmont on Sunday, Dec. 17, 4pm at Grace Lutheran Church.
Since its first performance in 1742, Handel's Messiah has remained one of the most famous pieces of classical music. The Mankato Symphony began its own tradition of Messiah performances in 1950, the first year of the MSO as an organization. MSO's 2023 production brings 90 minutes of Messiah's most popular tunes, including the Hallelujah Chorus.
Beginning an hour before the concert, at 6pm, the MSO is presenting its first ever Hometown Holiday Market, featuring handmade crafts by New Ulm's Misfit Crafters. The MSO will also serve free cookies and hot chocolate to audience members at intermission.
General admission is $25 for adults. Children 12 and under are only $1 and 15 minutes before the start of the concert, the MSO is offering free student rush tickets.
Tickets for Messiah in Mankato may be purchased online at MankatoSymphony.org or by phoning the box office at 507-933-0441.
The MSO's program Free Family Fun: See, Hear, Play previews the Messiah concert in a special presentation to seniors, families and their children at the VINE Adult Community Center on December 6 at 12 p.m. and at the Saint Peter Public Library on Dec. 9 at 10:30am.
