Library to offer program about Word War I

NEW ULM — New Ulm Public Library is hosting events focusing on World War I.

Educator and historical re-enactor Arn Kind will present “Minnesota in The Great War” on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. Kind will dress in the authentic uniform of an American Doughboy and discuss “the war to end all wars.” His multimedia presentation will use power-point, video, music, drama, role-playing and living history experiences to give an understanding of this turbulent time and make history come alive. This program is made possible by a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative and is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

The library will also host a screening of a recent World War I documentary on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Through ground-breaking computer restoration technology, filmmaker Peter Jackson’s (“Lord of the Rings,” “The Hobbit”) team creates a moving real-to-life depiction of World War I, in restored, vivid colorizing & retiming of the film frames, in order to honor those who fought and more accurately depict this historical moment in world history. This film screening is sponsored by the Optimist Club of New Ulm. For more information on these free public programs call 507-359-8331.
